What is the Summit Hall Gang?

They are a bunch of guys who experienced Summit Hall in the 70's.   They shared some great times together. We are pleased to say, each have gone on in life to become very successful and model citizens of the United States!   (Whew, imagine that!)   When asked about their favorite moment they each have a different story.   This page will be dedicated to those moments.  Anyone of you may offer your own rendition of a "favorite moment" at Summit Hall.  These will be unedited.  Please try to keep it clean and try not to hit too hard on the other guys. Email submissions to:  MBByard@CS.com ,  Subject:  Moments.

Some people call me "The Eraser".  Some may think of me as "The Spiderman", but I am really just  "THE WEBMASTER",  Sincerely,  Marv Byard.

"My favorite moment in Summit Hall ........".

by (your name)

01/15/05, from Marty Pauls:

One of my favorite moments in Summit Hall was one night when "streaking" was popular, myself and someone else streaked from the bathroom out thru the bar and into the back alley at the Rough Stone (remember that great bar). Being very proud I couldn't wait to get back to my buddies at Summit to brag about my feat. Turns out I was out done. It was movie night in the cafeteria (probably Clint in Play Misty For Me) and everyone was down there. When the elevator door opened there was Jeff Cunningham, butt naked, sitting on the boulder in the rock garden at the bottom of the steps, drinking a beer, doing his version of streaking; Jeff just didn't like to exert himself. Seems like someone else was with him, anybody remember who it was?

It was Mac man.

01/17/05, from Mike "Rookie" Keating:

Being Jeff's RA and one of the Social Committee members (typically roadtrips to Point Marion for beer, but this time I was in charge of the movie) at the time.............that memory is seared in my brain...........the only thing more disturbing was Parents weekend one year on the 10th floor when all the parents were greeted with Playgirl centerfolds of guys all over the dorm walls......not even Playboy centerfolds........you sick puppies .....(did split-man ever admit his involvement?)

01/17/05, from Al "Big Bird" Burrell:

I remember those also..............That may have been the same weekend that a still fairly full keg got knocked over, (I think it was under the pictures Rook is talking about), saturated the carpet, and slowly evolved into a wonderful stale, old beer stench that permeated the floor for weeks to come.

Another story to go with the 'Playgirl' pictures.....................when we were at Summit during the winter of '75-'76, it was the time of the '76 Winter Olympics. One of the stars of those games was a very young, cute and talented Dorothy Hamill. Well, Sports Illustrated in their issue focused on the Olympics had a great picture of her, looking very cute in her little skating outfit, and some of the guys had this pinned to the wall in their rooms.
I returned to my room one night and found that my loving roommates (Rookie, Kirik and I assume Novotny was involved) had pinned up a picture above my desk so I could also enjoy a picture of a skating celebrity of the Olympics.
Of course the picture they left for me was of Dick Button....................

Sugar Bowl 2006...........Peach Bowl 1972...a bit of nostalgia

Nope, Not going to the Sugar Bowl, unless my wife has a sudden change in heart. My son, Allen, is going. Is anyone else going?

Strange occurrences have put this in Atlanta. Just happens to be the same sight of the Peach Bowl some of us went to in 1972 with "Cowman" at the wheel.

I don't recall who all went. I know that Alex Coco, "Cowman, Tim Barnes and I went. Did Rob Arch or Joe Chek go? Who else? Dunkle?? I really don't recall.

I do recall about an eleven hour drive, including a small town where the speed limit was 44 ( I dare you to go 45) miles per hour.

I recall crashing (sleeping, passing out, or both) in the TKE Frat House on Georgia Tech's campus.

And I remember being so hung over that simply cracking the lid and attempting to put the bottle of sweet-smelling MD 20-20 to my lips (unfortunately just below my nose) just about made me heave on the guy sitting in front of me.

And that WVU got crushed by NC State 49 to 13.

After the game, I recall some crazy WVU fan running thru the neighborhood near the stadium with a white sheet draped over his head and body. Needless to say, I had enjoyed all of the festivities, including Underground Atlanta, except for the game itself.
